Mid Suffolk Disabled Facilities Grant

Objectives of Fund

The Disabled Facilities Grant Scheme aims to support people with disabilities by offering assistance towards the cost of providing adaptations and access to facilities, to enable a disabled person to continue to live in their home.

Value Notes

Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants are means tested. The maximum grant available is £30,000.

Match Funding Restrictions

Where a disabled person and their partner are in receipt of income support, pension guarantee credit, council tax benefit, housing benefit, tax credits with an income of less than £15,050 or income-based job seeker's allowance, they will not have to make a contribution. No means test is applicable to grants when the work is for the benefit of a disabled child.

Who Can Apply

Initially, applicants should contact Social Care Services for an assessment by an Occupational Therapist, who will make a recommendation in respect of any work considered necessary for the disabled applicant direct to Mid Suffolk District Council.

Restrictions

Applicants should contact the provider direct to discuss any exclusions that may apply.

Eligible Expenditure

The type of work undertaken is dependent on the needs of the individual concerned and must be included on the occupational therapists' recommendation. Works typically funded under this scheme include:

  • Access to the property;
  • Installing ramps and paths;
  • Installing stair lifts;
  • Provision of a level access shower and accessible WC and wash basin; and
  • Widening internal and external doorways.
