The 'Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation' strand of Horizon 2020 aims to address the internal disparities which persist across the EU in terms of research and innovation performance. The aim is to tap into Europe's as yet unexploited potential in research and innovation and encourage greater commitment by the low-performing Member States and regions in order to enhance competitiveness.
