Healthy Holidays is a partnership between Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds City Council and is funded by the Department for Education. The fund will support community organisations to provide engaging and fun activities and healthy food during the school holidays, for children eligible for free school meals.
Key information
- Healthy Holidays can support:
- School-aged children confirmed eligible for benefit-related free school meals by Leeds City Council (minimum 85% of attendees)
- Other school-aged children experiencing food precarity (up to 15% of attendees) - To be eligible, activity must:
- Deliver at least 4 days during the Christmas and Easter holidays and 16 days during the Summer holiday, for at least 4 hours per day
- Include at least 1 hour of physical activity per day
- Offer a hot meal to attendees. Breakfast and healthy snacks should be provided where possible
- Include daily nutritional education as part of activity - Please make sure that you’ve fully read the additional information document before applying
- You should be open to, and actively support, children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- You should be able to connect children and families to relevant local support services
Examples of activity that can be funded
- Daily sessions that include: sport and physical activity, dance, drama, outdoor activities, games, arts and crafts, environmental activities, and active play
- Providing new experiences, such as trips to the coast, countryside or attractions (day trips only)
- Activity integrated into sessions that promotes cultural cohesion and understanding of different cultures
- Activities that include cookery and information that:
- improves the skills and confidence of families to make affordable, healthy meals
- helps children to understand nutrition and how to achieve it in daily life
