Locality seeks hosts for Community Organisers Programme, first deadline 19 August
This is a national programme being run by Locality with funding from The Office for Civil Society. Details from the host organisation guidelines :
The three-year programme will provide “500 training placements across England for individuals wanting to gain experience and Open College Network qualifications in Community Organising…”
“Each of the 500 trainee Community Organisers is allocated a £20,000 bursary. This is split into three – the majority – about £15,000 provides a training salary (taxable), £2,000 covers a further, deeper, training option such as a Diploma, and the rest, about £3,000 is used to cover learning costs such as travel and materials.”
What do hosts do? “Hosts are contracted by Locality and receive a £3,000 fee for their work. Hosts are contracted to do the following:
· Recruit between two and five local trainee Community Organiser(s) based on the Trainee CO Job Description. The Host must recruit in accordance with an agreed approach and within an agreed timescale
· Attend our 2 day induction session and understand the role of the trainee Community Organiser
· Provide public liability insurance and key policies which provide a basic safeguard for the trainees, the host and the community
· Provide access to some office space and facilities
· Explain the programme locally and get the backing of key people and organisations
· Help Community Organisers ‘hit the ground running’ straight after their introductory training.
· Provide ongoing support and a learning environment to trainee Community Organisers
· Manage the expenses’ bursaries
· Keep records of spending and take part in some evaluation activity
· Inform us if a Community Organiser infringes the Code of Conduct”
Locality is looking for between 100-200 hosts across England between 2011 and 2014. The first deadline for host organisations to apply is 19 August.
